Why Reading?

2200hours

According to FSI (Foreign Service Institute), for a given person to carry out essential work in English,
one needs up to 2,200 hours invested in language acquisition. That would mean that if
1 hour a day was invested to learn English, it would take about 6 years.

Exposure to English is very limited in environments like Korea,
and to reach a global standard of English
in the most sustainable and effective way
is through English reading.

Why English Reading?

When proper English reading habits are
established, literacy will be guaranteed.

And with continuous extensive reading,
students will nurture their analytical and critical thinking skills.

In Korea’s English learning environment, a student needs to go beyond simple literacy onto analyzing passages that
are at high school English level. English reading will build the skills necessary to not only understand a passage,
but to critically think and analyze in English.

3 Key Factors
for Successful English Reading

In order to improve English reading skills, reading practice at an appropriate reading level,
appropriate learning support, feedback, and individual goal setting are essential.

  • Consistent exposure
    to English environment

25-30 minutes a day is appropriate.

  • The level of difficulty
that fits the level of achievement

Determining the relative difficulty of a book
    read by each learner
    compared to an
    individual’s achievement level.

  • Systematic comprehension
    evaluation and feedback

It is ideal for students to have a
    comprehension of 85% or more
    through
    evaluation after reading.
